Slack Investor likes to portray a couch-loving lifestyle and, this is generally true, but there are areas of his investing where constant vigilance is required. In real life, he looks at his stocks at least weekly. One of his rituals on the weekend is to scroll through a watchlist of all his stocks with a price charting program. Slack Investor recommends that everyone does this – there is nothing like staring at a losing chart week after week to focus the mind on a bit of sell action.
This type of weekly portfolio review is essential to carry out Peter Lynch’s ‘flowers and weeds’ strategy.
‘Selling your winners and holding your losers is like cutting the flowers and watering the weeds.’ — Peter Lynch, Legendary Investor
Slack investor uses Incredible Charts to scroll through his portfolio. This is a paid service, but useful to him – as he likes to annotate his charts with notes, stop losses and trend lines.
Incredible charts offer a free month sign up and then $14.95 monthly for their premium version. The best way to start is with their free browser service that has delayed data and 100 data calls (charts) per month.
A completely free way to look at your stocks on a chart is with one of the web-based financial aggregators like Yahoo Finance or Investing.com.
Weeding
A few weeks ago, Slack Investor had such a weekly review and couldn’t watch anymore sliding value on some of the charts – he was forced off the couch into some action. The four ‘weed’ stocks were Hansen Technologies (HSN), IPH Ltd (IPH), CAR Group (CAR) and Life360 (360). They were all ripped out of the garden. At least initially, negative momentum in new stocks is something Slack Investor does not like to see.

There is a great concentration of the mind when you view a chart weekly and there is a continuing downtrend. Slack Investor must eventually come to terms with the fact that his ‘genius’ (??) in stock selection has misfired this time. For whatever reason, the market does not share Slack Investor’s initial view. A stock may have fantastic numbers in Projected Growth and Return on Equity but the market sees something it doesn’t like. These stocks may bounce back in the future but, for the moment, it is time to go from the Slack Portfolio.
Some New Plants
Slack Investor usually gets his ideas from the financial press. Two recent ideas came from Livewire articles on small-cap stocks.
GenusPlus Ltd (GNP)
The GenusPlus Group’s principal activities include the construction and maintenance of transmission and distribution power lines in Australia.
Core three-year holding perfectly positioned in renewables, grid electrification, and data centre work. Founder-led management with over 50% skin in the game is successfully expanding via key acquisitions. — Nick Sladen of LSN Capital Partners, Livewire
Cuscal Ltd (CCL)
Cuscal Ltd is a payments and data service provider that connects banks and other companies to Australia’s payment infrastructure.
‘It’s trading on 16 times earnings, got double-digit EPS growth the next two years locked in already, possibly three …’ — Sala Tenna, Katana, Livewire

Of course, Slack Investor never invests until he looks at analyst projections from Market Screener using the Financials Tab. All stocks have pleasing projected numbers for 2029 with a Slack Ratio above 0.7. Although Codan looks relatively expensive (Current PE ratio 42 – forecast 36 in 2029), their amazing management and products have beaten earnings forecasts for the past 4 years.

Slack Investor also topped up his holding of PM Capital Global Op Fund (PGF) in a discounted Share Purchase Plan.
The Beautiful Flower of Codan Ltd
In amongst the disappointments, there is one chart that brought real joy to Slack Investor. When first investing in a company it is impossible to know exactly how things will turn out. Constant vigilance is necessary – and sometimes you just get lucky! The investing process with Codan encapsulates the whole Slack Investor method.
It was through a stock ideas article in 2020 that Codan entered the portfolio. He topped up his holding in 2021 and 2025. CDA is now the biggest holding in the Slack Portfolio. The agile management of this great company has just reported another earnings upgrade.
‘Find good growth companies (on paper) and buy them. Invest with them further if they continue to grow. Discard the many ideas that just haven’t worked out – and wait for the ‘unicorn’ growth superstar to emerge.’ — Slack Investor
There is a lot of luck in investing. However, by continually exposing yourself to growing companies that are not overpriced – you increase your luck! Thank you Codan, and your management team, Slack Investor salutes you.

September 2026 – End of Month Update
In response to inflation fears and interest rate rises, all followed markets fell this month. The ASX 200 was down 3.2%, the FTSE 100 down 2.0%, and the S&P 500 down 0.8%. For now, each Index remains above their stop losses. Slack Investor remains IN for the FTSE 100, the ASX 200, and the US Index S&P 500.
All Index pages and charts have been updated to reflect the monthly changes – (ASX Index, UK Index, US Index).
The quarterly updates to the Slack Portfolio have also been completed with the ‘watering and weeding’ described above.
